Late December and it is already looking a lot like Christmas! Here in Connecticut we are expecting "some" snow on the next few days, how is your snow situation?
Last month of the year, last month of the decade and also last Island Batik Ambassador's challenge for 2019! This month is about "exploring the world of 3D" using optical illusions, textures, trapunto... or any passion for geometry that followed you along your life!
For this month I was saving a 10"square layer cake package (42 squares) from Black Pearl Collection designed by Kathy Engle. It is a collection from last Summer (2019) and is arriving in shops this month! If you like to work with stripes or scrappy patterns this collection is perfect, because most of the fabric designs are small compared to other batik collections.
I cannot get enough of these purples!
It is no secret that I love to design my quilts on Electric Quilt 8 software and this time it isn't different. Up.Side.Down is a geometric mini quilt (25" x 25" finished size) inspired by optical illusion. It is a foundation paper piecing pattern and the alternate grid adds a dimensional effect to the stripes. I used Aurifil 50wt in black for piecing.
I used two layers of Hobbs Batting, first Tuscany wool and 80% cotton 20% polyester blend on the bottom. For quilting, my Handi Quilter Amara and Aurifil Threads, 40wt/2ply (the Forty 3) on the top and 40wt in the bobbin both in black.
And here is my 3D challenge!
Thanks for following my adventures as an Island Batik's Ambassador this year! I hope you enjoy your last weeks of this decade and Happy Holidays!
And don't forget "When things are Up.Side.Down, take your time and enjoy the view" ;)
See you in 2020!
